About this Performance

The celebration of Trenton's outstanding musical community continues, as the Capital Philharmonic and the Capital Singers combine forces to honor the choir's 20th anniversary. This special event begins with Poulenc's Gloria and Rutter's Te Deum and culminates with Beethoven's beloved Pastoral Symphony.
Poulenc's radiant Gloria reflects two sides of a composer famously described as being both "monk and rogue." Deeply spiritual yet playful, the work blends reverence with exuberance in a vibrant showcase for both the Capital Philharmonic and the Capital Singers.
Rutter's Te Deum is a jubilant setting of the ancient hymn of praise. Filled with soaring melodies, brilliant orchestration, and radiant choral writing, it celebrates joy, gratitude, and hope.
As his worsening deafness left him increasingly isolated, Beethoven found solace in nature. His Pastoral Symphony captures the serenity, joy, and renewal he found in the countryside, making it one of the first great programmatic symphonies and a true turning point in orchestral music.
